CITYSCAPE DREAMS
Lies and traffic noises hang in the mottled air
over the green
and
where sun has been
unheard echoes of other lovers
we can walk untouched by everything that's not ourselves
*
Over the wall and away
join hands through the slice of sky that's between us
paper landscape
wishes - secret between us.
*
They wandered hand in hand
Through dusty sunladen streets
Until they came to the square
Loud with light and the bustle of the day
A floor of marble
A pool of gold that had washed
A million million feet
In the centre a fountain bursting into the blue of a sky
full of screaming birds,
And round the fountain's edge, words in a language too old to read
And as they gazed
An old man who sat, spoke and said as they listened in their love:
"Touch my drops to your lady's cheek
and kiss them away,
and they will be the only tears
that you will see there this day".
Lies and traffic noises hang in the mottled air
over the green

unheard echoes of other lovers
we can walk untouched by everything that's not ourselves
