Livered Queens

The rattle of a trundling tram
the steely hiss of one at speed,
hold tight, ding-ding, these sounds can
transport me back to trams a dream
of stateliness, of Liveried Queens.

The swaying and electric hum
the slickertyclick of ticket machine,
clatter of kids as up they come
to the saloon above, I dream
of stateliness of Liveried Queens.

The screech and whine of modern bus
the crash of gears the fuss the streams,
of people in a constant rush,
and all the cars, but still I dream
of stateliness of Liveried Queens....
