Goodbye

It’s so hard to say goodbye
But I don’t quite understand why
We never had anything real
Nothing to lose, nothing to feel

Never quite knew if it even existed
Some chance to share the time that persisted
Let it drown before it could breathe
Now we have a reason to leave

I wonder what exactly we could have been
A lowly zero or a perfect ten?
But we don’t have to think, just forget
Or our demons within will beset

I wish you the best on whatever you do
I pray you think the same thing, too
No tears are falling from our eyes
But still, it’s so hard to say goodbye
