Paper hearts with broken wings
caged in dark, sight unseen
angels shot out of the sky
Paper trails with white washed faces
secret letters to hidden basements
tiny voices left to die
Paper cuts with rainbow bruises
wounds that crust, blood that oozes
no one left to hear their cries
Paper hearts take flight in dark
with silenced dreams on broken wings
some set free to fly
