I read that both 'maths' and 'math' are shortforms of 'mathematrics'.
To my sense all three are imposters, having corrupted the word 'myth' which used to play a more vital part in our society. In league with 'science', math/maths/mathematics try to devalue anything you can't put a number on. Long live 'myth', I say :))
