In the morning light

To the sun, the moon must seem a fool
living in shadows, nobody able to see Her rule
yet she continues so patient and quiet
preventing the tides from creating a riot
guiding our nights along on their paths
yet, the sun on has His wrath.
Beating us down under his heated crown
hoping we will drown
in our own sweat from our brow
hoping to match her beauty somehow.
Yes, spring may belong to the bright
but Winter belongs to the cold night
just like the moon herself, cold and aloof
yet so beautiful it goes beyond any proof
the pain and dread many feel in it's grasp
is nothing more than the warmth's last gasp
before being consumed by the quiet queen
yes your life may look better in the in-between
or even in the morning light
but for me, my kingdom belongs to the night.
