a quatrain
“Where flowers bloom, so does hope.”—Lady Bird Johnson
enthralled am i by every blooming thing
that elevates itself above hard grounds;
for, in its reverie, a golden spring
that giveth life to all with hope abounds.
fresh euphony exploding every stem,
enthralled am i by every blooming thing;
for every bloom a shining diadem
invokes from each unique orchestral string.
give me a toothless smile, and i shall sing
where tongues’ similitudes angels inspire.
enthralled am i by every blooming thing,
for happiness is not for sale or hire.
give me a widow’s hope for daily bread,
a wounded soldier’s efforts peace to bring;
for, when life’s prospects blush with cherry red,
enthralled am i by every blooming thing.
