Image for the poem That Eternal Now

That Eternal Now

Sometimes in lovemaking, I was only
partially there. My mind darted
between before and after. I felt the rhythm
of my husband's affection but saw images of
what had been and what might be.

Finally, he drew me into the present,
into that eternal now where all of creation
places itself in service to the making of new life.

Author's Note
I wrote this after my best friend told me of her pregnancy. She and her husband love each other deeply and I wanted to capture the beauty of her language.
