what a wonder
pull a star down from
the night sky
hold it thusly to
your heart
then cover yourself
with its ashes
I looked for tenderness
but found only the
sandpaper coarseness
of useless words and
the idioms of ignorance
I looked for hope
but found its lone
tombstone on a
wind swept hilltop
don't try to tell me
about miracles
I saw life gun them
down in cold blood
then walk
away
whistling a
merry
tune
