As GW got onto his horse, "Preacher", he was full of hope that they would make good time. Rev. Henry Bunn had been so kind to give him this horse, a Quarter horse, bay color with a white sock on its right rear leg. Preacher had some truly amazing blood running through his veins, as he descended from legendary horse "Steel Dust". It's no wonder that when Jones Green from Kentucky gave Rev. Bunn a horse from Steel Dust, he chose to pass it on to GW!
GW was welcomed by everyone at the picnic with cheers as he arrived, having completing the two mile journey in just seven minutes. While Marry Ann welcomed him, her expression revealed her displeasure at his tardiness. GW quickly apologized before being instructed to lead the table in grace. Taking Sallie's hand in his, the two joyously made their way up together and, with great pride, GW delivered the Blessing.
Ophelia was delighted to see that everyone quickly filled their plates up with her cooking, and she was even more pleased to hear the compliments they had to say! All the kids however, were far more interested in the birthday cake than their plates, so they were all paying close attention when Mark Ann, Sallie’s beloved aunt, lit the candles on top! Sallie was overjoyed as everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday’ and she blew out all the candles with the biggest wish of all. Mark Ann then started to cut the cake, and the eager kids lined up for a slice!
