The beast within
Now i lay me down to sleep
Inside my head these demons creep
Last night they gave me no rest
Yet again tonight i stand a test
I lie awake to fight memories of back when
We named mom's boyfriend the beast within
There was no boogeyman under my bed,nor in my closet
He lived with us making daily deposits
Into mine and my siblings' minds
Violating us time after time
The stinging pain of bruising skin
To the scars rooted deep within
It all seemed too much to bear
Looking into eyes that contained a blank stare
How could a mother not know?
How could she have been so blind?
Loving a man with a black heart
There had to be a sign
If the writing was on the wall
She couldn't read even in braille
That her babies;sons and daughters
Were going through complete hell!
A baby boy much younger than ten
Shrieked in pain as he broke him in
Although it's quite graphic
Imagine how it felt
The agony when no one hears your cries for help
Innocence stolen by a thief in the night
No one who'd understand his plight
Or the way my baby sister clung to her pillow
To find comfort the best she could
If mommy couldn't save her, then who would?
Baby brother's grown now
With his own wife and kids
But still agonizing over what this beast did
How daddy left us alone, unprotected
Leaving his babies to be beaten and molested
Five children grown up,each with a complex
Who seek refuge with drugs, alcohol and sex
I hug my baby brother as the tears roll down his face
The boogey man is gone, but still leaves a trace
The nightmares we share
The pain so hard to relive
Now the battle we fight
Is the one to forgive
I hug my brother, pray with my sister
To exorcize the demons
Washing away innocence stained with semen
Let the healing begin
What was in the dark has come to light
For it was not ours, but his sins
I thought the enemy was in me
'Cause he was keeping me from intimacy
In to me see? No one could see
Not lovers,nor friends
Only God can set us free!
Inside my head these demons creep
Last night they gave me no rest
Yet again tonight i stand a test
I lie awake to fight memories of back when
