Seven
A little more time
couldn't believe it was real
when I saw your face through the peephole
You looked better than you must have felt
Why come back to the place?
You left so bruised
And I spent more time
conjuring you
that's why I couldn't believe
you're standing within my reach
You said, ‘Olivia could you open the door?
I know you can't believe that I'm here
when I promised not to turn up anymore
but seven years without you is an eternity.'
You lived right by me
on 7th Street row
and I couldn't believe we hadn't met before
and you gave me your smile
and I gave you my life
which apparently means you had to scar
And I spent my time
ushering in you in
it's like I couldn't believe
you were somehow beyond my reach
You said, 'Olivia, could you handle the truth?
I know you can't believe the words you said before when you promised you'd never hurt us but seven years have taken a toll on you.'
But how can I tell you
my dreams every night
were made of you
that my nightmares involved
you finding your way back
and I'd hurt you just the same
You said, 'Olivia this wasn't your fault
you shouldn't hurt anymore.'
and seven years melted into insecure memories
as I remembered what you were
what you made me become
couldn't believe it was real
when I saw your face through the peephole
You looked better than you must have felt
Why come back to the place?
You left so bruised
And I spent more time
conjuring you
that's why I couldn't believe
you're standing within my reach
You said, ‘Olivia could you open the door?
