I remember the smell of rain on asphalt
The gentle caress of the summer breeze
The sweet taste of fruits so ripe
The music that was your laughter

Why do you still hold on to that foolish hope?
Surely you know that you are better suited alone
Why lie that anyone should care for you?
You take without guilt or discrimination
Do not pretend to have grown a conscience
How do you think yourself good?
You only speak to them when you want something
And leave them unable to answer
You will always hunger
Always thirst
And never learn

What would it take for your kindness to fade?
What promise would tempt you to abandon your moral standing?
You do not seem to want for anything
Perhaps your empathy will be your downfall
Would you damn strangers for a chance to save your beloved?

It is the stepchild of my worries.
You see, I dream of worlds anew
create pages I can hide
They set me free
They barricade the doors
the child could never find me
Vibrant beautiful singing colours
essenced scent waters eyes
simply breathtaking sight
A fright, need I say?
The child lingers

I am never free

December’s holding on to the cold
With that thought I shiver
It haunts my dreams
Creeping in I did not expect
The only thing he did was smile
Like everything was fine
The year passes
He’s with another now
Keeping that same smile plastered
Taunting me with perfection
I shiver
Like everything was cold
I find him on the floor once more
Crouched in a corner
Tears glistening
He senses I’m watching and spares me a glance
And then he smiles
