autumn frenzy
autumn is a going-out-with-a-bang kind of season
crisp & gloriously vibrant
fireworks in the trees
as the leaves burn out in spectacular fashion
before drifting slowly downward
casually...in no big hurry
to litter the streets
kicked & blown into gutters
where they'll still be seen
or gathered into multicolor piles
as children & young at heart
throw themselves with wild abandon
into their crinkly embrace
laughter & smoke fire from chimneys
mingling upon the breeze
nature's party clutter
like the wreckage of summer flings
so full of hopeful bloom in their youth
faded to nothing with her blues & greens
last call
before exuberant days end
until the hem of autumn lifts
swirling elegantly
on the momentum of her turbulent winds
and colder weather steadily slips in...
