The Dove

Thoughts and dreams of you will always wash ashore,

Bringing with them subtle reminders of that person I used to be.

The dregs of mistakes made times before, effortlessly swallowing me like the sea.

I could’ve and should’ve done more, instead of abusing your trust and love for me.

I now sadly remind myself of a flea, as I hid that I was bitter to my very core.

Unfortunately you seen something within me, something you thought was worth more.

But I always failed to consider your patience, I blatantly disrespected your love.

Nor did I ever consider fragility, as I bore my full weight upon that of a dove.

I truly regret the damage, but cannot fix it with anything, no amount of love.

Guilty of betrayal, neglect, cruelty. Guilty before the sun, and the creator above.

I see now that I simply cannot undo what has been done… No matter how hard I pray upon The Dove.
