Prayer for Renewal
Who stole my child America
while the eyes of the world
envied her dream
Who curdled California
poured poison into Wall Street
then let the fat cats skim the cream
I see the dumpster dogs come howling
while the homeless trade in rags
without a soul to share
hoping some day
from the ashes of their flag
they may build bridges
to overthrow despair
Oh mother of our nation
tuck me tightly up in bed
and bless me with your kiss
before you leave
Hush away the questions
which torment my troubled head
that I may sleep safely without fear
Find me the truth
for the lies I've been fed
and come morning
let the answers appear
while the eyes of the world
envied her dream
Who curdled California
poured poison into Wall Street
then let the fat cats skim the cream
I see the dumpster dogs come howling
while the homeless trade in rags
without a soul to share
hoping some day
from the ashes of their flag
they may build bridges
to overthrow despair
Oh mother of our nation
tuck me tightly up in bed
and bless me with your kiss
before you leave
Hush away the questions
which torment my troubled head
that I may sleep safely without fear
Find me the truth
for the lies I've been fed
and come morning
let the answers appear
