Remnants

"We're all of who we've ever been, even when making love."

At the moments of his coming,
I was all that I'd ever been
inside the edges of my human home.

Remnants of past selves still lingered.
Could he hear a child in my laugh?
Did he see her in my eyes
or sense her music in my fingers?

The child still lived there always,
looking for kindness in a lover's touch.
