No Human Gesture Too Small

There is no human gesture
too small to lack meaning.
Some words, when whispered,
carry immense weight.

I want to remember everything!

And so, when your fingers
drew circles at the edge of my ribs as if
asking permission, I placed my hand
over yours and moved you to my breast.
“There,” I whispered across my smile.

Later as we kissed, your hand
lingered on my stomach, and I
knew your thoughts. A slight
touch was all you needed.
You exhaled long and soft when
your hand found its home.

Author's Note
“There is no moment too small in the world.” Suzanne Simard  This was a favorite quote my mother shared. Sometimes I've been on the edge of finding its meaning. Here, I'm imagining what it might be like to find lasting love. Photo is edited from an earlier picture my mother took of me and a love now lost.
