Summer's Embrace

dragonflies dart about over the pond
eyes always focused on what lies beyond
kingfishers watch for fish swimming by...

to fly, to hover, move backwards and flee

butterflies flutter, wind in the leaves
sounds of creation as stoically trees
in humid and sultry summer's embrace
bring a sense of forever into this place...

poppies and lupins burst into flower
Sun worshipping beauty hour after hour
buttercups everywhere yellow and bright
awaiting the humid and sultry night -

sunset comes slowly Sun slips behind
mountains on the island every time
nightfall's golden promise fades away...
