Less Than Friends

 

Flies will eat you from the ground
and hold you up when you are down
and pile you away like an idle mound
and kick you beyond being found.

Flies will hold your head up right
and tell you how to live and lie
and take you by the hand and guide
and teach you how to fear and hide

Flies will catch you when you wrong
and shame you til your weak and ill
and make you pay each time you fall
and strip you down until your raw

Flies will break you if you fight
and corrode you into being alike
and shape-shift your thoughts into lies
and feed upon your desolate cries
