war and reason
all the broken pieces
 
“He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you,
 but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8
 
the implements of war
leave their unsightly scar
where reason, taken to the test,
would kill the guns that spar
 
but instruments of peace
can human hearts release
to bond the broken cords of love
with binding elbowgrease
 
life is a transient day
fleetingly swept away
justice, mercy, humility:
let reason old wars slay
 
may love of justice and the justice of true love
mend all the broken pieces and our hopes improve
