BETTER WHEN I'M DEAD
never could
afford
a nice suit
but damn
if she didn't find
one to almost fit
at the goodwill...
undertaker
made it look
right
and combed
my wispy
coif
just so
and
trimmed the beard
and i swear
i look better
dead
than i
ever did
alive
pretty
box, too,
and they
laid me
down
in silk-like
polyester
better 'n'
what i slept
in all
my days
and there's
a big
bouquet
and a heart
made o' flowers
and a
peace lily --
i always
wanted a
peace lily
and who sent
it?
prob'ly
donna sue
a few folks
came to watch 'em
lay me in the dirt
and ol' deb
even shed
a tear or two
and the preacher
talked stuff
i never could
believe in
but what
the hell
it don't matter
anymore
i'm dead
and lookin'
better
than i
ever did
alive
afford
a nice suit
but damn
if she didn't find
one to almost fit
at the goodwill...
