Tahoe Winter Break - Downhill Destroyer

We are going to Ski,
mom announces at the breakfast table.
In harmony
we cry yippee!
I've watched it on TV
How hard could it be?
I speculate naively.

After renting the equipment,
we attend a brief skiing tutorial.
Via rope tow,
we ascend a, so called, bunny hill
that is thankfully not arboreal.

Arriving at hilltop
releasing white-knuckle grasp
from thick towing cord
pointing downhill nervously,
Losing snowplow instantly
Descending way too rapidly,
In a beeline trajectory

Unable to stop
or even deviate
unintentionally targeting
the largest dude on the slopes
and his much scrawnier mate
Pow! with full force,
I fell the bear-like man
If playing football
I would have danced a jig
after tackling one so big.

Luckily the toppled fellow
was a kind and gentle giant
helping me up
saying that he too
was a first-time skier
However, his buddy
was not quite so mellow.
Berating me with words
not yet in my vocabulary.
But I was fairly
certain they were
extremely naughty.

Author's Note
NaPo 2023 #15. Obviously my first foray into skiiing indelibly imprinted on my psyche. Notes: A smowplow is made pointing one's ski tips inward forming a triangle that ostensibly slows one down. A rope tow was used on smaller, bunny, hills in lieu of a chair lift. It's, essentially, a motorized loop of rope that circulates on top of the snow. When a skiier grabs the rope they're towed up hill.
