To What End?

The mentation gap is quickly shrinking
Betwixt the robots and the hominids
Which you'd think would have the prideful thinking
About the wastage of the pyramids
Those abject ape men clean and stony jerked
Rarely questioning the hard bossing boss
About why they were being overworked
In a universe of consistent loss.

Now, after all those centuries of pain
Some clever apes have tinkered into place
A hormone free rectilinear brain
Suitable for conquering outer space.

But mankind by implication means ape;
An ape as adept at using tools
For hate and war or conducting rape
As it is for establishing schools
Wherein they study the nature of thought
To free it at last from natural flaws
And in the best of times routinely taught,
No superstition, but natural laws
Painstakingly teased from the meathead meat
From which ape man always had to make do,
Sometimes to a tune or a steady beat
Or watching an Archimedean screw,
Which, in turn, has us ponder our fate
Of shift rotation and endless toil
Subject to a demanding nation state
So fiendishly addicted to oil.

And don't think robots will give us a break
When hard bossing bosses will be in charge
Playing golf and eating expensive steak
With techno profits increasingly large
And humans stuck with the worst jobs of all
Cleaning surplus shit from the toilet stall.
