a haiku fest
1. prey
birds are possible
feather friends to everyone
carrion de come
2. slay
you're impossible
enemy to helpless birds
watch di wing dem soar
3. soufflé
birds have cattle friends
egrets nest on cows' backbone
flee-and-tick prekkeh
4. touché
when the storm winds blow
swallows refuge in the rock
birdman snug in bed

There is something inherently spiritual about the succinct image of the haiku, yours carry a sense of the symbiosis of being. I am reminded of the Bible I think Jesus said, Look to the birds of the air, they have neither clothes nor shelter, but the Lord provides, loosely paraphrased.

Rather insightful, DC, and a well-appreciated endorsement. You sum it well: man needs nature and nature depends on the care of man. Still, as the haiku fest captures, man seeks too often to be a nuisance to nature. And yet, in a lurch, a bird can wing away, while man remains confined by his own pompous "superiority."

Definitely a valuable perspective to consider. My whole life I've been through cycles of entitlement and taking things for granted and then the aftermath of loss and discovering myself through it and retrospect.

To see you glean such personal value from these verses is, indeed, heartening.. It affords one the insight that the lot of humankind is a common one, despite location, generation, or personal postulation.
I do see myself and the entire human race in it, as, well; for the responsible stewardship of our earthen home, God's Creation, is the whole duty of man.
