Image for the poem Highway

Highway

so he came
next to me
looking for heat
or out of fear
or even pain...

huddled over me
throbbing
and jumping
trying to stay
trying to run away
trying...*

in the empty city
his name
everywhere:

walls, cars,
viaducts, on the streets...
everywhere,
his name repeated
to zero exponent
of obsolete.

to remember that love
is abstraction
even when
exorcised in concrete.

climb
the blue paper walls
of drawn flowers
with care and zeal
for no one to see them
because nobody knows
how to harvest
forgotten orchids
or torrid daisies.

...

* from when
I still remembered
trying to forget!
