Black Dawn
In the land of the free and the home of the brave,
There's a story that's been told of a people that were slaves,
Whose bodies and minds had been beaten and scarred,
And whose lives have been haunted by a past that's so hard.
They've fought for their rights, for their voices to be heard,
They've struggled and sacrificed, for a dream that's deferred,
And though progress has been made, there's still so much to do,
To ensure that justice and equality are not just for a few.
For the Black man and woman, the road has been long,
And the struggle continues, as the fight goes on,
For the right to be seen, as equals in every way,
And to be judged not by color, but by what they say.
The legacy of slavery, still casts a long shadow,
And the wounds of the past, continue to follow,
As the system perpetuates, a cycle of poverty,
And the struggle to overcome, is a constant reality.
Yet, in the midst of the struggle, there is hope,
For a future that's brighter, and a world that can cope,
With the pain and the hurt, of a people long oppressed,
And a journey that continues, towards true freedom's rest.
So, let us stand with our brothers and sisters in this fight,
For the right to be seen, as human beings with equal right,
To live, to thrive, to hope, and to beam,
And to be the change that will make history's dream.
