Inner complications

The mind is an unique thing  
It's hard to understand
There are inner complications  
It's hard to make a plan  
 
Emotions can cause you pain  
The damage that was done  
But without them, you will fall  
Like a top, you have been spun  
 
Flung back and forth  
Like a pendulum  
Trying to avoid the truth inside  
From this, you try to run  
 
Needing to be logical  
But afraid you'll never realize  
That you need to follow both  
Or your mind will be paralyzed  
 
Stuck in an endless cycle  
Of wondering who you are  
Trying to find a purpose  
As you wish upon a star  
 
Not broken but in pieces  
A puzzle that lies within  
A path you did move toward  
But you never did begin  
 
Lost in the past  
Unsure of your present  
Looking toward the future  
Searching for your element  
 
The air will spread the fire  
The fire burns like anger  
Water cools the mind  
The earth is the anchor  
 
Pulled in multiple ways  
Unsure of the answer  
Afraid to be seen  
There is no one commander  
 
You look in the mirror  
Thinking of your life  
Sometimes there is darkness  
Sometimes there is light
