The Dark Abandoned Road
An abandoned back road
leaves a darker side of town.
Deep impenetrable forest
up one side and down.
The road twists and turns,
every corner is blind.
A dim streetlight ahead
with only blackness behind.
Wet asphalt is cracked,
and the lines are all faded.
A stop sign is rusting,
neglected and jaded.
Weeds sprout through the cracks
that cross left and from right.
Potholes and frost heaves
create a treacherous ride.
To where it does lead,
there's no way of knowing.
It's too scary to dwell on
so I persist to keep going.
