Every Excuse in the Book
Was it something
said or done,
a word that won
though lost a ton,
and ended worse
than anything,
a bell when rung
without its ring?
Perhaps it's missing
just a shower,
simple steps
that cause this cower,
distance seems
a basic space
to slow the mood
and halt the pace.
Who's to know
what truths are out,
felt about,
causes doubt,
every single
slant of tone
that chills the warmth straight to the bone?

I'm in no hurry to get to heaven, but there's no reason to put myself and others through hell in the meantime.
