Hang the Aussies
I was saddened the other day when I heard the news
SCV wouldn’t field in a corps in ‘23
Fiscal issues seem to have a put a halt in their ops
Taking a one-year hiatus from the activity
What’s probably most difficult is breaking from tradition
For more than fifty summers they went on tour
Now those age-outs won’t have a final year
Understanding that the future has to be secured
Us admirers are sad we won’t see them take the field
Every year we cheered, fell in love and became obsessed
Their music always brought something special
Especially when crowds yelled “Vanguard” in a two-note rest
The drills
The thrills from these arrangements always left us in awe
Me saying “Jesus, how’d they do that?” from the stands
The skills
The chills you gave everyone throughout the decades
Always in the top twelve and always making new fans
From Eureka to Phantom
From Martha to Aaron
From Saigon to Babylon
And everything in between
I’ll Send in the Clowns
And wait for your oh Vanguard
And witness the new kids realize their dreams
Hang the Aussies for a little while
You’re still my favorite corps
I’ll be cheering for you
We’ll see you in ‘24
