Obliterati
We were eight billion
and the skies grew warmer with each breath
The Devil rejoiced
as his path grew hotter with each step
Rain and sun conspired without mercy
while the four winds shrieked blood
to hasten our end
Mothers cast out their children
to wander hungry and die
their bellies bloated
on the cruelest road to death
Great mansions honed from greed
were riven unto dust
until the stars cried farewell
and the dark dread of night
ached for the return of life
as deep underground
a worm like creature
lay cocooned in sleep
waiting for the Earth to cool
waited to begin
again
and the skies grew warmer with each breath
The Devil rejoiced
as his path grew hotter with each step
Rain and sun conspired without mercy
while the four winds shrieked blood
to hasten our end
Mothers cast out their children
to wander hungry and die
their bellies bloated
on the cruelest road to death
Great mansions honed from greed
were riven unto dust
until the stars cried farewell
and the dark dread of night
ached for the return of life
as deep underground
a worm like creature
lay cocooned in sleep
waiting for the Earth to cool
waited to begin
again
