Full Circle
I've heard the calling breeze of Mars
seen its dust-hazed red setting sun
though folk, perhaps, may go so far
regretfully I shan't be one.
My birth too soon to hear the hum
of rocket's start's fast thrusting blasts
and racket of life's leaping rush
to new future's from ancient paths,
Perhaps crossing of some new bar
as ancient Mariners have done,
in heaven's-bent stainless steel barques
sailing to new worlds now we've won
the old with stone, bark canoe, some
brand new tools now to hack, fantast
driven, new worlds expansion pushed
from that driven race till at the last...
As from Olduvai and Afar
a thousand years with each step run,
out of Africa's Savannah,
feeling those newer cooler suns...
Not for an age have we just come
but for all time our die is cast
to circle the universe, this is just,
to look God in the eye as in Eden past.
