I entertain the darkness
inside it collides with the void
its alive and rises to meet the day
insolent liar kisses the breeze
tastes fate and fancies a date with destiny
culling the madness I grin within
while eternity empties its visions in my mind
and I scream for fucks sake, it hurts
a haunted dream hunts me
I smile sideways
and begin again to climb the onyx corridor
I am a believer in ghosts
they watch me make wrong choices every day
I wile away the insanity inside the numb
the bleak cackles uttering I see your innards
run little girl while you can

Is the ghost supernatural, psychological, or either way Hamlet style?
Additionally, how can sanity ever be an actual factor in human affairs if we all have an absolutely unique DNA signature?
Seemingly, we must all qualify as insane since sanity implies a standard where there can be no standard.
Which is why humans, poetry, and this poem in particular are so very fascinating!

thank you for such an intelligent comment I don't know how to properly respond... my ghosts are quite real psychologically speaking...you're right about the sanity part being we are unique and what I observe may be very different from another... in any case I deeply appreciate your insight ❤️

Well I deeply appreciate a poem that so intriguingly approaches such a fascinating topic!
Of course your ghosts are real, and uniquely address the whole ghost in the machine issue, only, poets phrase it so much more interestingly then science or philosophy does, don't they?
You use "smile sideways" here as well as in your poem "Lust", so I'm left wondering about its significance to you, or is it merely a handy idiom? It is pictorially awesome either way!
The line that really made an impact was when you "begin again to climb the onyx corridor" which had my mind flash to the concept of Qualia (moments of consciousness), which has a massive Wikipedia page about it and seems to me the phenomenon described so mesmerizingly by your poem, and is therefore tied into the ongoing swirl of debate regarding whether or not consciousness itself is the result of some divine spark or merely the complicated bioelectrical interplay of neuronal activity.
I won't ask where you stand on the issue because I think the university eggheads are still wrestling with it their own selves, as they always have.
Needless to say, I prefer your treatment of the topic to Wikipedia's.
