Another Time, Another Place
“Another Time Another Place”
O! Lover mine, you hate me enough to love me,
Just as I love you enough to hate myself.
O! Why did you change so dramatically
Into what I always knew you would be?
I knew it from the start that you would break my heart
But I denied myself the decency of your fidelity.
What was said never could be undone—
I remember the signs and the warnings
That I chose to deny in silent suffering.
It was better not to be lonely than it was to be happy.
It was easier to deserve you
Than it was to deserve something pure.
For that idea, I would move the seas
O! I would cut the sky in two,
For I was not alone when I was lonely with you.
The time has passed us by my love,
But your eyes have not aged a day.
Such a lovely gaze from so far away.
I see the beauty that I saw before,
But it’s not beautiful anymore.
I watch you leave the city gates:
Our separate ways to different fates.
But for a second, there is a doubt
As you wander a phantom rout
Back to my embrace
Another time, another place,
For you hate me enough to love me
And I love you enough to hate myself.
