A Gathering of Eyes

A gathering of eyes filled the room
glinting their approval.
He recognized the eyes
as his own, but hadn’t
seen some of them in years.

He saw the eyes of his childhood
looking on with curiosity and innocence.
Some were the eyes of adolescent desire
afraid of being left with empty hands.
Some were the tender eyes of a father
wishing to dab away the tears of his hurt daughter.

And some,
some were the eyes of the man he’d become,
already tasting what the future held and
knowing he would have it, regardless of the emotional cost.

All of these eyes encircled him,
some filled with questioning,
some wet with tears
His eyes looked deep into hers as if
seeing her for the first time.
She was beautiful.
He brushed aside any doubts as he felt
himself entering carefully into the moist warmth of her.
