So makes me think of a song, "A Life of Illusion", by Joe Walsh and a album title, "Beyond Appearances", by Santana.

It's so interesting how the past shapes us so much and defines so much of who we are. But then it often feels so far away, like a dream. And in the present is that momentary everything in that instance of time that so quickly becomes the past. And you wonder if time even exists, but those dreams of the future keep telling you it does. That it will get better somehow, I suppose only the future will tell.
