mister censor
A most wonderful, lurid, poisonous little tale. - Oscar Wilde, reviewing The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
On meeting Mr Censor all
I have to say is this:
that any blade can be a rose
if understood beyond its grim function.
Performing empathy, the artist makes
the art come out and bloom
by spritzing it with aestheticism.
The art grows like the bud, the kid,
the anything that needs a sun,
and water frequently.
The love of all candles
can fill the darkest nave
and make the altar reachable,
even if it’s drenched in baby’s blood.
