The Retail Store, Part 10

It was Tuesday Morning
I skipped Monday because I was too out of it. I needed time to recover.

Upon my return, the air was piercing
It was too soon for me to start slacking
I knew this but this option is better than looking like a mess.

You just know when you're in for trouble
However to my surprise the morning went smoothly.
Sales were good for the midweek.
It did also help that the 3 Cs were nice again.
I got off clean, or so I thought.

It was nearing lunchtime
When the boss asked to talk to me:

"We didn't see you yesterday, you didn't even call in"

"I'm so sorry, it's just..."

"No excuses, why would we hire if a post isn't to be occupied? Man don't party on a Sunday..."

"No I wasn't partying its just..." - I kept quiet realizing she doesn't know the full story.

"Go take lunch and then come back, I still have a bone to pick with you"

This felt like being grounded and I had to leg to stand on, so I followed suite.

Lunch was taken in pairs, around the hours when business slows down. I guess today we're a trio

This being Jay, Chloe and I.

I found them sitting cozily in the staffroom. Jay strangely had a smile on his face. There was tenderness to their conversation.

 "It's an early lunch for me as per bosslady's orders"

"The man of the hour" - Chloe remarked

"What does that mean" I replied

"Sam, Claire, Candice, man is on a streak" Jay remarked unexcitedly

"Just be careful, or this place will swallow you up" He continued as he got up to leave.

"Love you" He gave Chloe a kiss on the cheek. "We can't be understaffed, so it's back to the battlefield for me"

A tad confused at what just happened I sat across Chloe.

"It's not what you think" She remarked

"huh"

"No we're dating, it isn't like what you get up to around here"

That felt a little backhanded

"So how do you and Jay know about..."

"Girls Talk you know, and so do girlfriends" the smirk on her face.

"I've only seen you around, Claire and Candice. It didn't cross my mind"

"At work we work and at home we fuck, Claire and Candice are my girls but they're much closer"

I got to know Chloe a little better, She was the balancing factor of the 3 Cs. Candice can seem cold, Claire is the firecracker and Chloe hones them in.

"I'm still curious as to why Claire recommended you for the job. However you seem to be fitting right in"

The boss walked in abruptly , key in hand. "Lunch is over"
