You Were Worth Waiting For

It took a minute to lick my wounds
Another to learn to walk
And yet another to wake
To my reality
I had to wander
In these deserts with no water
Dying slowly as I watched
Others flourish
Finding no oasis, I waited
Leaving only my mind to wonder
I asked myself who
Am I?
I asked myself why
Am I here?
I asked what
Am I ready for?
Then asked when
Will I be ready?
It took me a minute to get back
To leave the wilderness
And emerge as a better me
I had to wait for you
And boy were you worth waiting for
