I feel a deep essence of empathy...to me this poem feels like it's coming from the viewpoint of those less fortune, down on their luck or homeless perhaps.... their internal dialogue, of sorts..... impactful and very moving...

So...

I have always liked to go to places
where I will not see a police officer...

Which is increasingly difficult
in our modern age...

Often times this is where you will
find those less fortunate...

The edge of the Earth...

Seeking shelter from the slings
and arrows of modernity...

I do believe that theirs is a
special illumination...

A special form of enlightenment...

I have always felt that...

But yes...

This might sound crazy,
but I once thought to myself:

If they can't have anything,
then I don't want anything...

I know that is totally crazy...

I guess I have aspects of myself
that are deeply empathic...

Which I definitely have to disguise
and mask accordingly...

But yes...

I know I took great risks,
of different kinds, to sort of...

Secure food and shelter...  If you will.

But...

I am just as much an outcast
as those that are homeless...

And always have been...

These are quite complex
and profound things...

That I think about....
