Perpetual Spring!
Oh farewell April, and hello May...
And though it's been a lot of fun
I'm ready for the kind of day
That treats me to more ribald sun
In afternoons of plum tree shade
From where I spy my gardening wife
In all her yard work clothes arrayed,
And wielding her old pruning knife
On wanton fruit tree undergrowth
Reminding me that renewed wood
Still pairs well with the age old oath
That as newlyweds she understood
Would make regular the very sting...
That Cupid shoots at everything!
And though it's been a lot of fun
I'm ready for the kind of day
That treats me to more ribald sun
In afternoons of plum tree shade
From where I spy my gardening wife
In all her yard work clothes arrayed,
And wielding her old pruning knife
On wanton fruit tree undergrowth
Reminding me that renewed wood
Still pairs well with the age old oath
That as newlyweds she understood
Would make regular the very sting...
That Cupid shoots at everything!
