Intro to The Black Spot
From the time we are born
we are on a journey
a traveler on a road
at some point we will come to a fork
and have to make a decision
which road to take
It is these decisions that
make us who we are
You can lie to others
you can even lie to yourself
but if someone was to look at
a map of the roads you have taken
they would know who you are
This book is about one such road
I was cruising down life's highway
sun shining ,warm with a slight breeze
perfect traveling weather
when I can across a sign
It said Cancer ahead
I looked in the rearview
but there was no going back
suddenly it got very dark
and began to rain

I was intrigued to read this piece and it will be particularly interesting to see how it unfolds. I appreciate the vulnerability of telling your story. Sometimes I think it’s important to communicate the ‘roads’ you have taken in life.

Hello. Your poetry is beautiful and the vulnerability is palpable.
I had cancer last year and was misdiagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of thyroid cancer found by accident on a PET scan and confirmed with a biopsy. I had surgery in October and it was found in my lymph nodes, but thankfully, it was regular, run of the mill, papillary thyroid cancer.
The original diagnosis was not anything I expected. I was told the survival rate was 60%. To me, after having had no symptoms and my bloodwork has always been normal, it was devastating. I struggled with many thoughts as does anyone diagnosed.
I hope that things work out for you. I will keep you in my thoughts.
