Tomorrow's Ghosts

The maudlin masses all wander, but at time's behest
On their unique paths, until they inevitably, evanesce
Meandering inexorably, but always towards the brink
Oblivious to the reality, they're oblivion's, missing link
Raised through natural selection, every one bespoke
Razed finally, in the infernos, to cremains and smoke
Only once they've toiled a life, from length to breadth
Will they inescapably be hosted, by the void of death
'tis this, nether-nowhere space, that the spirit loathes
Stealthily set aside, for awhile, for tomorrow's ghosts
Glimmering ideas of being, will feel like make believe
Humanity exiled, to where only the spectres perceive
Outside of an existence, the future, will pass them by
Somewhere, straight ahead, it will be their time to die
The ghosts of tomorrow surround them, it's everyone
Shapeshifting in the shadows and then, forever gone
