A Bird's Chorus
In a valley
damp with the dew of dawn
a woman walks
Silence her companion
moon setting
sun rising
The shadow of darkness
masked by streams of light.
Then, from tree unseen
sparrows sing a Sanctus
Sweet in its innocence
Dark in its simplicity
Echoes of twilight
clear and serene
stories of poets unknown
A quiet northern breeze
whispers a new song
similar yet profoundly unique
A call
a message
a symbol
an elegant duet
reaching towards the sun.
Out of emptiness
voices arise
one by one
a cacophony of sound!
They welcome dawn
in symphonies and psalms
Turn away night
with a frenzy of feathers.
The woman helps;
her consciousness
matchmaker of Night and Day
her lips create their names
out of shallow breath.
Day has arrived and the woman
contemplates how easily man
lost control,
never had more than self-appointed control,
of the moon and the sun.
Yet both man and bird keep
these forces at bay.
One with a song
the other a name.
