strike down that foe
stretch and grow

Hmm, really? It's written very much in response to people who are never going to look at my poetry, so not really all that courageous. I try to say the same things to them, just a little more... gently. People don't like change.
I'll admit maybe the timing of it related to current events might give it a meaning that isn't exactly what I was referring to. But if the shoe fits...?

Christians DO understand what You said in Your notes but most say it in secret.
But Your statement is not exclusive to Christians; just the other day or 14, a Buddhist neighbor told me he is afraid to die. As a student of zen Buddhism, i was SHOCKED!

What i don't get is why people go into the next step in their (spiritual) evolution with fear. Serves no one but the one who first instilled that sh*t,

People of all faiths are pretty good at "saying" we believe it.... but fail when it comes to internalizing & demonstrating that belief, whether it's our own death or the death of a once-beloved institution. The other side is unknown, and boy oh boy do we ever hate the unknown!! I've been working for years to help make my church into something more just, more compassionate, heck, even more "Christ-like" if you use that language. But there are things about it that have to die to let that happen. I'm tired of the fight and ready to just leave and find other people elsewhere who "get" it. I know they're out there - but so much of my life is entwined with these particular people, it makes it very disheartening.
OK, that ended up a little more specific of a comment than I intended... LOL You're right that fear is the root of the problem... but fear is the thing that faith is supposed to combat...
