The Wedding Band - Written from his point of view

I looked down at my hands
covering your breasts and
saw the shine of my forgotten
wedding band worn smooth over time.
You didn’t seem to
notice since it was warmed by flesh
once promised to another.

Those were promises I kept
until her death.
I still wear her ring
to remember her and
discourage sexual advances.
I felt my wife's hand
covering my ring in approval
as I came inside of you.

Author's Note
My lover apologized for wearing his wedding ring the first time we made love. His explanation was sweet so I wrote this through his eyes and added a favorite photo he took of me on our second date. I think he'd asked about the next course. My daughter said I should blur my face. Smart girl.
