Crazy Lady Returns

I am perplexed.
Shocked by who I was
just days ago –
Who the hell was that?

Fawning, needy,
wretched creature,
I wish no one had witnessed her
but there she was,
born out of a week
laden with worst fears,
slow-cooked stress,
resentful sacrifice
and poorly mixed chemicals.
She crept up unnoticed
(though I should have learned by now)
a bottle of crocodile tears in one hand,
the other one wielding claws

As I relaxed my guard
she pounced
a tempest, shredding good will
leaving me to tend the tatters

*

To withstand those flames
and still remain
is a gracious gift
I can’t explain
For she was surely
a hurricane

But I guess she was me,
so her carnage
is my responsibility

Damn it, I thought I had banished her.
