The Rat of Hell-Hamelin : Acts 1-4
Act1
In a time, called twelve eighty nine;
By night and by day
They crept through gaps
In floorboards
In the roof, in the house
Into barns full of hay
As the mediaeval town
By candles and lanterns
In their gowns
and beds did they lay
The creatures need more
Even crumbs from the cake
Strudels and ginger
Bread and trails
Visitors and kinder
leave behind by the door
They whacked them
with broomsticks
Dashed them with pottery
They burned them and drowned them
Unleashed their cats to hunt
That caught them
and taunted them
and finished off the little cunts
Mothers cut them up
Defurred them
Put them in their stew
Mouse ears for puddings
Rat tails in dough
For recipes old
and recipes new
The meat of their bodies
for knockwurst
with sauerkraut,
brie and brown brew
They laughed and they sang
As they newly acquired
Dinnertime taste
For luxurious
rodent diet
that came without haste
Little heads watching
from bowls of their soup
Protruding kartoffel
And holes of many cheeses
Audience worn silent
cooked up troupe
to the dancers it pleases.......
Act2
Plague came and went
And everything fell quiet
In March and in April
The religious gave freely
instead of their lent
But one had escaped
Ingested poison from old lady
and got bigger and Bigger
and BIGGER!
vindication
waxing with body
It would never relent
Nefarious plans it would soon trigger.....
Act3
Later that year
Came very cold and still Winter
One that the young and the old
Don’t want to remember
And would never forget
A beast moved in the dark
In the shadows it waited
Eyeing townsfolk off
And making its mark
Planning to bait them
One early morning chill
Dressed in coloured tunic
It came down from the hills
Jester, fool or knave?
Started piping its Pan
With horns of ascent
they will be taken
by the measure they gave
to a glorious descent
Ears of sharpness
And whiskers fine
Teeth of yellow
Eyes tonic veined with brine
tail long
and twisting and bent
Nose that knows
Fate of wind
wood magick it blows
with necromantic intent
They listened to the tune
A hymn to their minds
And a rhyme to their souls
One by one they led out
Into the streets and lanes
Like rats from necrotical holes
They followed the creature
In rank and lines and rows
Felines purred in single file
toward knell knolls unknown
and forests
to Unnatural defiles
Act4
The children left behind
played with their dogs
and they then got thinner
as they all had sweets
for breakfast, lunch and dinner
did the same, the Rat
but of adults,
husbands and wives
pleasured single women
ripped up the men
tall, thin or fat
of every different size
and went out of its way
to trap and torture the cats
Epilogue
So this was the fable
of a sleepy Weser town
caught undone by vermin
it wiped out from its village
except one, it was unable
the rat dressed as clown
that begat the beginning
of Black Death
in decades to pillage…..
…..the leader of invasion
Long lived the rats in his image 🐭 ☠
