MINERS LETTUCE

There’s a half a colander of miners lettuce left over from the party

It won’t last so I take a handful and jam it in my mouth

For wild greens it’s surprisingly subtle

If it were meat it would be gamey but plants can be so gentle

I don’t talk to them the way you do but I appreciate their relative kindnesses

Including the way they hold the hill together as I try not to fall into the little ravine of your backyard
